He exhibited with the Impressionists at the First Impressionist Exhibition, but not subsequently so far as I can tell. He may have been alarmed by all the rumpus surrounding that ground-breaking show. As for the etchings after Cassatt, I think Jeune mère is rather lovely. I agree that the mother's face in Mère et enfant is a bit disconcerting, but I haven't been able to trace this precise painting to compare it to the original. A Mother and Child from 1890 appears to show the same models, so at least they are recognizable!Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18020242863144175965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340634554199883217.post-19109540214441151652013-11-09T18:14:04.718+00:002013-11-09T18:14:04.718+00:00Neil, I too, like Lauzet's interpretations of ...Neil, I too, like Lauzet's interpretations of Pissarro, and the Lepine which is completely new to me. The Horses In The Psture after Degas is charming. I don't like what he did with Cassatt; the faces seem all wrong. so perhaps it is just as well that he ignored the other female Impressionists. What an intriguing story you have given us. I think Lauzet did a great job of capturing the individuality of each painter, so that the etchings feel like the work of totally distinct artists. But I also like the way chains of influence can be discerned, so you can see how closely Forain looked at Manet, or John Lewis Brown at Degas.Neilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18020242863144175965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340634554199883217.post-21421260039861814362013-11-08T08:10:33.084+00:002013-11-08T08:10:33.084+00:00Reading your long and informative post is a great ...Reading your long and informative post is a great way to start the day, Neil, especially as I am heading down to my studio now to spend the day etching. I think the Pissarros are the images that most tickle my fancy this morning, but of course all the impressionists send me to heaven.Atelier Contihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17406574186162890210noreply@blogger.com
